Overview

The International Performance Assessment Centre for the geologic storage of Carbon Dioxide, known as IPAC-CO2, was established in 2008 to fill a gap in the understanding and assessment of risk and performance in the Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) chain.  It is a not-for-profit research and development organization committed to providing independent, objective information, best practices, advice and assessments to governments and industry.

IPAC-CO2 was created through the efforts of Royal Dutch Shell, the Government of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina.  The Government of Saskatchewan and Royal Dutch Shell contributed $5 million each to launch IPAC-CO2.  The University of Regina with over 20 years of experience in CCS, is providing a base for the Secretariat.

This global “community of practice” will tie together a network of organizations on virtually every continent.  Regional Centres and Networks have been established through partnerships with research-providing organizations in eight countries on six continents.
